After the deluge

This is what my tomatoes look like after 4 days of pouring rain.

When I picked corn, I found this.  The poor pollination makes it look like it has some kind of disease.  Random kernels look rather silly.

Then I found this smart aleck grinning at me.  He's kind of cute, so I'll let him stay.  At least until lunch.

Just spent the last 45min peeling tomatoes :( They're on the stove and in half and hour they'll be ready to hot pack. Should make another 4 L or so. There's more than last time.

My corn is small and shrivelled... drought.

Oh how sad. I peeked out this morning but didn't really check the tomatoes well. I'm sure some of them have cracked, but probably not that many except the cherries because I don't think we got quite as much rain as most people did in the area.

IT'S A JACK-O-MATER!!! :D

Yes, teach him a lesson, not to laugh at you. Bite his head off :D

Farmwife, you'll love them in January!

Daphne, they're all in a pot cooking into sauce right now. Ugly will still be yummy!

Kayla, I love it. I chopped him up and cooked him. That'll teach him for grinning at me.

Now, I know the problem with our tomatoes. They look just like that. I have cut around them and got some to eat but miss the big slices that feel a sandwich.
Love,
Marie

Poor little corn, it looks so sad. I thought about planting corn this year, but I didn't... probably should have done that. I'll put it on my list of things to do differently next time.

Marie, too much water will split them every time.

Kimmi, I'm not sure I'd tell anyone to plant corn at this point. We didn't get very much.

Cheeky little tomato giving you that sly grin! Our corn patch struggled this year too. I got better pollination than you achieved - but the ears are small and there is not that many of them. It's been a bad year for the heat lovers in our area and I know I usually do better than that - so I will plant corn again next year. Different spot though and I need to side dress fertilizer a little sooner next year.
