My first Harvest Monday

While cleaning up the garden beds, I found some parsnips.  They look a bit hairy and ugly, but tasted lovely.  The weight came to 12.5 ounces, so I'll start a tally in the side bar.  The remainder of my lettuces and spinach are still a week or so away, but I was anxious to join in the fun at Daphne's Dandelions

It's been a busy few days here.  I apologize for not getting posts up in a timely manner.  We were busy with Hubby's birthday and a several other large happenings.

The weather is continuing to be odd.  We hit 90 yesterday with muggy and 80 today.  This is July weather, not May.  The 7 day forecast seems to be showing above average temps the whole week.  At this point, it seems that our last frost day for the year will be April 28th.  That is almost 2 weeks early for us.  I'll be starting to harden off the tomatoes and peppers this week and planting the majority of the direct seeded crops as well.  Lots to do and lots of fun as well.

I'm thinking our last frost was on April 28th too, but for us that is normal. The weird hot muggy weather isn't normal, but then the whole spring has been warmer than usual. Our "cold spells" have brought the temps only to normal, and not to really cold.

I hope your parsnips tasted good.

I love to find forgotten delicious vegetables when cleaning up garden beds! It feels like such a gift, and then, they are generally delicious, like your parsnips.

Our last frost date is Victoria Day (wk b4 Memorial day). I hope - depending on the rain - to get my strawberries and potatoes in today/tomorrow. VERY early for the potatoes and tonight will be our first meal of asparagus. Dh found some morrell's to go with them at MIL's... they grow under her pine trees.

Daphne, ours is usually the 9th of May. Last year it was on the 14th. I know it's an average overall, but wow this is a crazy warm spring.

Angela, so much fun to find lost treasures!

Farmwife, it is so early for me to have so much done already this year. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the spring and summer brings for weather.

Parsnips are so good. This reminds me that I need to find some space in my garden and sow my seeds . . .

Mmm parsnips. I am always in two minds what to do with my overwintered ones. I love watching them growing taller by the day to produce spectactular flowerheads that are abuzz with beneficials and eventually full of seeds or eat them. Because they taste so yummy. In good years, I try to do both.

Nice harvest.
