Getting my groove back

Vacation is over for the kids.  They went back to school yesterday.  After over a week of getting nothing at all accomplished, I'm trying to get back into my groove.

It's always amazing to me how busy Christmas is.  Making gifts, shopping, wrapping, socializing and lots of cooking make for a very busy month.  When you add to that Hubby's computer business going into overdrive just before the holidays, it's quite exhausting.  This week is all about taking back my life.  There are still plenty of computers to be repaired, but not to the point that I can't get other things done.

To that end I'm putting quick meals in the freezer and getting the house cleaned and organized.  I'm not the best housekeeper in the world, but I appreciate a nice neat house as much as the next gal.  I hate clutter and disorganization, so that is my usual incentive to clean.  We're purging lots of crud that has built up over the years.  It makes me so happy to see these things leave my house.

While I purge, I think about what it would be like to pack up my house.  It's not a big house, but there are lots of things we've accumulated.  We're contemplating moving from our beloved neighborhood in the next year or so.  Who knows whether we'll actually do it, but getting rid of excess is never a bad thing in my book.

Now it's time to move on with the never ending to-do list.

  1. Kid's went back yesterday. Dh is underfoot today b/c it's too wet outside for his crew to work.

Year ends, T4's, HST.... I have the payables on the computer, will finish the receivables this afternoon.

Not impressed with having to get back into the groove... but it's time.

  2. Moving is a great way to clean the house out. I went through things I hadn't looked at in years.

  3. Farmwife, it isn't always fun to get back in the groove.

Daphne, I want to toss and get rid of lots before we do anything.

  4. We made two cross country moves within 6 months one year and boy did we ever lighten our loads both times. Then again moving into a dinky apartment. I'm still amazed at all the stuff we have and am thinking it's time to do some sorting and throwing out, (or rather selling or giving away. Freecycle is a great way to get stuff hauled off for free!)

  5. How wonderful. Sounds like you are getting so much accomplished. That always feels good.

Having moved every 2-3 years for the past 23 years, it is a daunting task, but yes, it is a great way to rid of the clutter and unused items that just take up wasted space.

  6. The holidays is definitely a worldwind of activities. I'm slowly trying to get back to the swing of things also. Moving is tough, we did it last year, and I don't want to do it again for many years to come. I agree that moving makes you purge things you don't need.

  7. Leigh, I don't think I could have done that. I love Freecycle though!

Lorie, we moved a lot when I was a kid. I don't know how my parents did it.

Meemsnyc, I'm not a big fan of moving, having done it so much. Our next house will be our last.

  8. When I moved from CA, having lived in the same house for 25-30 years, I got rid of half of everything. It took me months to go through all that stuff. I have Christine's IMBATUTS (I might be able to use that someday) syndrome. I've just done another get rid of half of everything and am now down to about right.

The one mistake I made was not moving some things that I have not been able to replace - like a small, well made, mostly metal vacuum cleaner. Now everything is made out of plastic and isn't worth a darn.
