Yummy breakfast.

The kids were home today for Veteran's day, so I made a quiche.  The recipe is called Refrigerator Pie from Alton Brown.  I love it because I can use any old thing I have laying around.

This one was made with bacon, onions and cheddar cheese.  The crust is homemade with whole wheat flour and half butter, half home rendered lard.  Yummy!

  2. I love quiche. Whole wheat crust is not always easy to work with, so good job on using whole wheat.

  3. Meemsnyc, thanks!

Sense of home, thanks, the whole wheat does make a shorter crust. It tastes so nutty, that I don't really mind.

  5. Joanna, I use white whole wheat that I grind myself.

    It's 1 cup WW flour
    1 cup white flour
    1/2 cup lard
    1/2 cup butter
    1 t salt
    3-5 T ice water

  7. I love quiche. I made a lot this spring but haven't made one yet this fall. I think I have to get soup out of my system first.

Daphne, I thought about soup, but the quiche sounded awfully good today.

  9. Quiche is such a yummy meal and a great way to use up some extra eggs from the hens! I feel inspired to make one this coming weekend.
