He came back!

I've been wondering if my teen helper was going to come back.  Yesterday he showed up for more punishment.  He seems to show up for an hour at a time.  It's amazing what we can get done in an hour.

The biggest thing is that he can shovel the manure into the wheelbarrow and dump it.  I get to spread it around without my back feeling like I'll never walk again.  We still have lots of manure to spread.  There is a bit of rain in the forecast.  Hopefully, we'll get some decent weather next week so that we can get the rest spread.  Then maybe he can help me rip the weeds along the edges out.  They're really awful!  I love having help!

  1. I got a huge pile of soil dumped near my driveway today. I covered it with a tarp as I didn't want to have to move 5 yards of wet soil. Well it is already wet, but at least it isn't sopping like it would be after the rain storm moves though.

  3. Daphne, the rain should be starting any time now. My helper came again after I wrote the post. I now have about 2/3 of the manure spread. The rest will have to wait until after it dries out.

    Meemsnyc, I love it!

  5. Wow! That is wonderful to find someone that will even come back after the first effort! I have been busy spreading compost on beds myself but unfortunately did not have a young helper in the garden to make the task easier.

I took a pass this year on growing beets and have been regretting it this fall.... now that I see all those lovely varieties you have grown... I am REALLY regretting it! LOL! What a fine looking crop of carrots this year. I am totally impressed with how well your storage system holds the root crops. I may opt to go that route next year rather than hold so much in the ground. Perhaps I will do a half and half of each item and do a comparison.

By the way, over on my blog, I've invited you to participate in a "A day in the slow life" meme. It would be great if you could join in.

  6. Okay... somehow I manage to get a errant post mixed into my comment?! It is a comment I just left for someone else on another blog regarding beets and carrots just harvested - but must have had it in my clipboard and got it "pasted" into this comment. Yikes... I should not be blog hopping so late at night - I am dangerous. Ignore the middle part about the carrots and the beets - but I really did invite you to participate in "the day in a slow life" meme.

  7. Karen Anne, backs are a pain.

Laura, no worries. I'll head over to your blog and check it out. Thanks for thinking of me!
