The new chicks have arrived! This year we have Aracaunas. Every year I add a new breed to our flock. This lets me keep up the egg laying for our family and also lets me know by their breed, how old they are. We now have 3 breed, Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds and Aracaunas.
This is Noah holding one of the babies. We got the call that they were in last night at closing. When he was told that we couldn't get them until morning, he was devastated. Needless to say, we were there when they opened this morning. He even got to pick out the ones he wanted.
Morgan was upset that she didn't get to go to the feed store with us. She woke up when we left. They'll both get plenty of time with the babies now.
Now comes trying to get the light positioned properly so that they are comfortably warm.
This is part of Friday's photo blog hop.

You can probably tell which hens are laying well too by the different colored eggs. Though maybe not the first two.
They are just darling! I plan to add a few chicks to my flock next spring. It will be time then to freshen up the egg production.
Daphne, I can still tell where the eggs came from. The older birds have been through a molt, and their eggs get bigger. In a few months, it will be more difficult.
Laura, it's so fun to get new chicks. I am trying to add just a few every year. There may be years that I skip, but the kids are getting bigger, so we go through more and more every year.
The chicks are ADORABLE!! You're also creating some incredible lasting memories for your children. How neat for them to have a memory of their mom buying them these cute little feathery creatures, and all the fun they have taking with them.
I'm hoping to get chickens next spring. It will be the first time I've owned any "farm" animals. :D
Thanks so much for linking up on Friday's Photo! :)
Your Gardening Friend, they are fabulous animals to have. I hope you get them!
They are ADORABLE. We live in an apartment so no livestock allowed (and the cats do NOT appreciate being dressed up as chickens), but when we have a house someday I would LOVE chickens.
I like the idea of the chicken costumes for the cats.
